The Jade And The Jester - Chapter Sixteen

Yawning, Jade rose out of her bed, rubbing her eyes. Yesterday, Jade and Jacob talked for a bit, then he went home. She had gone to bed straight after, since she was extremely tired. She could hear dishes being washed, so she guessed her mom was home. She lifted herself out of bed, put on some proper clothes, and walked out of her room.
Her eyes widened, and not because of the Distort Reality this time. The room was covered with balloons, and it was sparkle-y everywhere. The washing dishes noise was actually more balloons being blown. Jade looked to her mom in astonishment.
"Mom?! What's all this?"
The mother looked up suddenly, looking surprised. "Jade! You're up early!" She looked embarrassed. "Sorry, this was meant to be a surprise. Happy Birthday...!"
Jade slapped her own forehead as hard as she could. How could she forget her own birthday?!
"Thanks, Mom!" She smiled widely, after a bit of mental cursing at herself.
Her mom returned the smile. "No problem, deary."
Jade kept herself from shuddering at her mom calling her 'deary', as she was only used to Jester saying that. "May I invite my friend Jacob?"
Her mom smirked, as if suggesting something (to which, Jade glared.), then nodded.

She had knocked on Jacob's door, and after his parent's approval, they were heading back.
"Did I say Happy Birthday already?" Jacob questioned. He had said it about 100 times now.
"Too many times," Jade laughed. She was practically screaming on the inside for everything to be normal today, no visits to the Distort Reality. When they got to Jade's house, she opened the door to all the lights off. She rolled her eyes, and casually flipped the light switch.
Her mom jumped out yelling "SURPRISE!" though said surprise had already been ruined. Jade acted shocked, saying "Thank you" again. Jacob giggled, noticing her sarcasm.
The day went like every other birthday party, cake, presents, and other cliche stuff.
At the end of it all, about 7:00 PM, the decorations were taken down. Jacob stayed a bit longer though, for 'funs'.
Jade had gotten a playstation, with two controllers, so her and Jacob played a game that came with it. Jacob had already had said game, and was giving her a basic tutorial. It was funny, as Jade kept somehow winning. Jacob claimed it was beginners luck, but Jade knew he was annoyed.
And, of course, mid-game it all stopped. She was starring at a black wall, nothing in her hands. Letting out a huge sigh, she turned to see Jester next to her. The look he was giving her startled her though. It was a mixture of worry, relief, and... something.
"Uh... Jest-"
"Thank god. I legitimately thought the teacher had gotten into your brain."
"What teacher?" She instantly remembered. Ohh dear. She must've given Jester a near heart attack. "Oh god, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to disappear like that! I got distracted..."
"By what?"
"Well... it's my birthday..."
Jester looked puzzled. "Question."
"What?"
"What's a 'birthday'?"
